Howard W. Arbogast, 74, of rural New London, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at his residence.

Howard Wayne Arbogast was born November 4, 1939 in Wayland, Iowa. He was the son of John and Ada (nee turner) Arbogast. He graduated from Wayland High School where he was an athlete, most especially in baseball. On April 29, 1962 in Mt. Pleasant, Howard was united in marriage to Fonda Rae Detrick.
Howard worked briefly at the telephone company in Wayland, at Waters Implement and the Blue Bird Bus Company, both in Mt. Pleasant. For 39 years, Howard was employed as an inspector at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. He retired from the plant in 2002. In his retirement, Howard operated a small engine repair shop, repairing an untold number of lawn mowers and other small engine equipment. Howard was very active with the Salem Little League Association. He served as president and coach several boys' baseball and girls' softball teams. In his younger years, his athletic prowess also allowed him to be very gifted on the dance floor and on the roller skating rink.

His parents, an infant son - Daniel Allen Arbogast, a daughter - Carla Rae Arbogast, and infant grandson and a stillborn sister precede Howard in death.
