On Easter Sunday, 27 March 1921, Fred and his older brother Bert, both students of the Argriculture School (later Arkansas Tech) in Russellville, AR, received a visit from their sister Nellie, who had come from Conway that morning. Later that same evening, a couple of miles west of town, Fred and Nellie were killed in a tragic automobile accident in Bert's Dodge roadster.
