Information provided by Find a Graver Emily:

Rowena Lockhart Hudson Cocke was born on July 24, 1854 to John Fontaine and Mary Cornelia Lockhart Hudson in Columbus, Mississippi.

She attended school in Baltimore, Maryland where she was musically trained both vocally and on the piano. She then went on to further her training at schools in Paris, France as well as New York City.

When back in Columbus, Rowena often took the leading role in musical amateur productions. Rowena also served as organist at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and sponsored a local boy's choir.

She married Charles Hartwell Cocke on June 5, 1876 and had three children: Fontaine Adger Cocke (1879-1902), Charles Hartwell Cocke (1881-1944), and Rowena Hartwell Cocke (1886-1959).

Her husband, Charles, was a long time educator and served as the second president of the Industrial Institute and College (now Mississippi University for Women).

Rowena donated two memorials to St. Paul's Episcopal Church. One, a Tiffany window, was placed in memory of her husband who passed in 1896. The other was a brass pulpit that was given in memory of her son, Fontaine, who drowned at the age of twenty-two. At the time of his death, Fontaine was serving as superintendent of the Sunday School for the church.

Rowena passed on November 28, 1924 and is buried in Friendship Cemetery.
