Carson Burt, 76, Peru, passed away at 8:04 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2006 at Dukes Memorial Hospital.

He was born on April 12, 1929 in Fulton, Mississippi to Willie Bob and Daisy (Jones) Burt, and married Mary A. Birks on July 26, 1950, and she survives.

Burt was a retired maintenance worker for the Peru Water Department, and was a member of the Wayman A.M.E. Church in Peru. The veteran of the United States Army enjoyed drag racing and working on cars.

Aside from his wife, Burt is survived by four sons, Ed Burt and wife Candace, Michael Burt and wife Kathy, Willie Burt and wife Kathy, all of Peru, and Carson Burt Jr., Logansport; three daughters, Mary Burt and Betty Sleeper, both of Peru, and Bobbie Burt, Indianapolis; two brothers, Ezria ‘Babe' Burt, Toledo, and Ben Burt, Tupelo, Mississippi; four sisters, Flora Rogers, Peru, Jimmie Green, Kansas City, Kansas, Jonnie Dentman, St. Louis, and Emma Perry, Carson City, California; nine grandchildren, Kayla Briscoe, Adam Perkins, China Burt, Jamal Burt, Anthony Ulmer, Kubie Ulmer, Jaleesa Sleeper, Brian Wiles, and Jairus Burt; and three great-grandchildren, Tyrieq Perkins, Cameron Wiles, and Emily Briscoe.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru, with the Reverend Maurice Reed officiating.


Burial will be at Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

There will be a Military Committal Service at the cemetery.
