"Dr. James A. Alborano of Matamoras, Pa., a Delaware Valley Elementary and Middle School Teacher and resident of Matamoras for most of his life, died Thursday, December 22, 2005 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, N.Y. He was 58. He was born April 9, 1947 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Arthur A. 'Bo' and the late B. Eleanore Polley Alborano. A 1965 graduate of Delaware Valley High School, he received his BA degree in Political and Social Science in 1969 from East Stroudsburg University and his MA degree in History in 1971 from East Stroudsburg. In 1973 he received his M.Ed. from Lehigh University in Elementary Education and in 1974 received his Administrative Certification from Lehigh University. In 1991 he received his A.B D degree in Administration Policy and Urban Education from Fordham University. He was a member of Hope Evangelical Free Church, Matamoras and was Vice-President of the Church Board of Directors and was Lay Leader for many years. He had also been the Church organist, Choir member, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent; a past Master and member of Orange-Sullivan Pomona Grange and past Deputy State Master, Neversink Valley Grange and Mount Prospect Grange; Friends of the Pike County Library; had been Vice-Chairman of the Pike County Republican Committee; a member of the Westfall Republican Committee for 15 years; member of the Matamoras-Westfall Republican Club and had served as Pike County Historian, Westfall Township Historian and Matamoras Borough Historian; was a Westfall Township Auditor and served on the Township Vacancy Board. His professional memberships included National Education Association, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania - Public School Employees Association, Pike County Education Association and was in Who's Who of American Teachers. Dr. Alborano was also a member of the Tri-State Community Chorus and was a former member of the Pike County 4-H Development Fund Board, Pike County Committee on the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution and Children and Youth Services Advisory Board of Pike County. He is survived by several cousins. There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at 1 p.m. at the Hope Evangelical Free Church, 308 First Street, Matamoras, Pa., with the Rev. Robert C. Grieve and Rev. Robert E. Foster officiating. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to Dr. James A. Alborano Scholarship Fund of Hope Church, 308 First St., Matamoras, PA 18336 or Humane Society Of Port Jervis/Deerpark, Inc., 202 Route 209, Port Jervis, NY 12771.
