US Senator. Envolved in the wholesale coal business in Omaha, Nebraska, he served in the US Army Air Service during World War I and as a Colonel in the Army Specialist Corps as director of corps activities in Omaha, (1942-43). In 1954, he was appointed as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Hugh Butler and served one term. Not a candidate for reelection, he resumed the wholesale coal business until his death at age 97.
