My Wonderful Mom

Ruby was the daughter of Martha Angeline Gunter and Rufus G. Green ,
the granddaughter of Coleman and Margaret Parton Gunter and James and Sophia Jones Green .
She was the baby of her 11 sibling, Henley ,
Laura Belle Green Rowe
, Lueilla Green Shetley ,
Elsie Green Gault
, Clyde, William , Carol,
Henry Lee
, Donnie , Paul and John Green .
She married Boyd Burgess March 30,1957 and together they had 7 children- Kenneth (Kent) Burgess of Whitmire S.C., Peggy Patrick,Margie Inman and Debbie Inman of Union S.C., Bernice Canupp, Jerry Burgess of Lockhart
And Crystal Moody or Rockhill.

She was employed by Diversco,Inc. and worked with them at the Cedar Hill plant in Jonesville, SC. and
the Powerhouse in Lockhart near her home.

Mom was well known and loved by many people, more than
I can count. She was a very high spirited and energetic woman, nothing ever seemed to bring her down and She never met a stranger.
Dancing and tell jokes and being with her family was her life. The highlight of her days were seeing her children and grandchildren. She loved to make other people laugh and feel good about themselves.

She loved flowers:lilies, carnations and roses were her favorite and plants, indoor or outdoor- it didn't matter.
If you gave her one or a hundred she always had just the right place for them.
She enjoyed watching wrestling too,she would talk to the TV
and try coaching their moves and fuss at them even though she knew she was talking to a TV...but that didn't stop her...go figure...
Times like that which I remember make me happy to have now.She really was a character...Jerry Lewis had nothing over her,HA,Ha.She was known as the bike peddling dancer of
Lockhart, she'd ride her bike most every where down here and as soon as she got off of it she began dancing around to get a chuckle out of someone.

Mom knew she had cancer for over a year before she died and she never once
Let it take emotional control over her. She was a private person, all she
wanted was to focus on everyone else.

She was married to my dad for 35 years before he died and
she never remarried. Mom pasted away on her and dad’s anniversary.

Mom,
The day God called you home was the most painful for me,
I took it so hard, I didn’t want to believe.
I said “Mom can’t be gone, there still so much to say,
Things we haven’t done together -we said we do another day.
It tore my heart in pieces to think you were gone,
First dad and now you, I felt so alone.
Disconnected from the world, nothing could I do,
I felt numb all over- No this can’t be true.
Mom has left me behind to be with others she loved,
She was ready for the day God called her from above.

I love you mom, always.
