My Uncle Joe was my favorite Uncle in the world.Unc was the son of the late Frank Maurone and Elsie Maurone Karmade Harper. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Jean Doris Vennell Maurone of Delran,New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his son Joseph C. Maurone, Jr.in 1978.His surviving children are: John Michael Maurone of Delran, Sharon Lee Maurone of Salisbury, Md., and Jeanie Marie Hoffecker of Hainesport. Unc is the proud grandfather of Lisa and her husband, John DeRosa, Michelle and her husband, Rob Trani, Michael Hoffecker, Jacqui Maurone, Joseph C. Maurone III, and Shawn Maurone, and great-grandfather of Gina, Mariah, Anthony and Dominic. Uncle Joe is also survived and will be sadly missed by his sisters, Rosie Shemeley, Marie Rizzo, and Dolly Cramatola. as well as numerous nieces, nephews,brothers-in law and sisters-law and numerous relatives and many friends.
Uncle Joe was born in Riverside and had been an area resident his entire life, the last six years spent in Delran. He served in the National Guard and worked at HK Porter and Riverside Metals in Riverside, and as a press operator for 25 years for Stylex in Delanco, retiring in 2000. Unc was a member of the VFW Post 3020 in Delran, the Am Vets, and the now defunct Delran Moose Lodge. He will be fondly remembered for his love of the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers, as well as pitching horseshoes and having barbecues with his family.
He was an avid and faithful Philadelphia Eagles fan and loved watching the games on television and always decorated at football season with all of his memoribilia including a giant blow-up of an Eagles player for the front yard. He was the coolest Uncle ever and I miss him already.
Uncle Joe and Aunt Jean were joined at the hip. Where one was, the other you can be sure was right there too. They were devoted to each other, which in this day and age is a rare thing indeed. Throughout over 50 years of marriage there were tough and trying times to be sure. But, with faith, love and perseverance they made it.
Unc was never sick a day in his life until the last 6 or 7 months of his life when he found out he had liver cancer. He passed away at home at 8:15 this morning with his best girl right there with him. As it should have been. Aunt Jean said "Joe, it's Jean, I love you.....a tear escaped his eye and he was gone....."He is now in heaven with his beloved parents and son. Someday soon we will all be reunited in heaven. Until then Unc, always remember I love you......
