"Mark Walton McHugh, 61, of Batavia, IL passed away unexpectedly May 17. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, May 22, at Leonard's Funeral Home in Glen Ellyn beginning at 3 p.m.

Born in Chicago, Mark was one of four children of Elaine and Reginald McHugh, whose passing preceded him in 1996 and 2001 respectively. Mark grew up in Glen Ellyn where he attended Forest Glen elementary school and graduated from Glenbard West High School in 1971.

He graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, IA in 1975 with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and then attended Roosevelt University, where he earned a certificate in Paralegal Studies. He advanced to DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, working simultaneously as a paralegal for the Illinois Department of Corrections, Legal Services Division. After passing the bar exam he worked as an attorney there. His career led him to the Property Loss Resource Bureau (PLRB), where he recently was honored for 15 years of service.

Over the course of his life Mark participated in many sports, including football, softball, basketball, skiing, sailing, tennis and golf. A competitive swimmer from childhood into his late teens, he coached youth swimming for many years and was often in attendance at his son Matthew's baseball games and his daughter Megan's soccer games—enthusiastically cheering them on.

He married the love of his life in 1987 and not long afterwards came two children. Now young adults, the children represent the legacy he leaves of his gentle temperament, kindness and thoughtful parenting.

Mark will be missed by his wife, children, in-laws, brother-in-law, his sister, his brothers and his friends and colleagues.

In lieu of flowers the family invites people to make a contribution to the Matt McHugh and Megan McHugh College Fund in memory of Mark W. McHugh."
