Sanford Beyer was killed in Petersburgh, Va. on March 25th 1865.

The Bellwood Post of the G.A.R was named in honor of the memory of Sanford Frederick Beyer who was born at Beyer’s Mills, near Tipton, Blair County, about 1841 a son of Aaron and Lydia Ramey Beyer. Sanford F Beyer enlisted as a Private in Company A 110th Regiment of Pennsylvania Infantry on the 24th of October 1861 and served through many battles and engagements with his company. He was taken prisoner and after months of confinement in a tobacco warehouse at Richmond, Virginia he was exchanged and came home to recuperate. Afterwards, rejoining his regiment and while engages in the Petersburg Campaign he was killed by a Minnie ball during the battle at Hatcher’s Run on the 25th of March, 1865. His body was returned to his home and buried in the Mt Zion Cemetery, near Bellwood.
