William Floyd Wehrly, 72, died Sunday at his home after a long illness.

He was born in New Castle and was a 1939 graduate of New Castle High School. He was a refrigeration and heating repairman and retired in 1986 from Indiana Reformatory in Pendleton after 16 years of employment. He had also worked previously at World Bestos, Sears & Roebuck and Consumers Ice & Fuel Co.

Mr. Wehrly was a member of New Castle First Christian Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Delores; three sons, Jim, Steven and William Jr.; four daughters, Paula Cronk, Nancy Wehrly, Lorraine Ross and Vickie Adams; two foster sons, Charles and Richie Hinchman; and two sisters, Gladys Ballenger and Edith Metsker.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Adah Stottlermeyer, Odessa English, Ruth Wehrly and Juanita Scott.
