Edward J. Bacinich of Palm Beach died of cardiac arrest on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012. He was 82.
Born June 13, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he attended the Polytechnic Institute of New York. In the 1950s, he worked as a consultant for the Martin Marietta Corp., developing the Titan Missile System and later, at Sperry Rand, he was involved in the making of the U.S. Air Force B-1 Bomber. In 1965, he founded his own firm, American Consulting Association, a Chicago based engineering companyt.
After retiring to Palm Beach in 1980, the physicist and engineer established the Alpha Omega Research Foundation, a public not-for-profit organization devoted to scientific research in the areas of cosmology and quantum physics, focusing on topics such as the big bang, black holes, matter, time, light and gravity.
In his 1983 book, The New Physics of Symmetrical Energy Structures , he revolutionized the basic concepts on which physics is understood. He was invited to join the board of the University of Miami affiliated Global Foundation, the South Florida Science Museum and The New York Academy of Science.
Super Unification of All Forces, Reinterpretation of General Relativity and Accelerating Space Fields were a few of his international publications. In 1992, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Center for Theoretical Studies.
"After listening to Ed describe and explain the universe, one felt so elated, and then a few hours later one couldn't remember anything but the marvelous feeling of revelation," said friend Juliette deMarcellus. "It was quite extraordinary to know someone has normal and amusing as Ed Bacinich and yet know that his mind was always at work on the origin of everything… He could not only explain how others had theorized about the nature and working of such things as light, gravity and parallel universes. but he could make his own ideas crystal clear and convincing. He could make sense of it all. "
Frederic Odasso, a fellow physicist who has known Mr. Bacinich for most of his life, said, "Ed was a brilliant man whose passion for the unknown brought him to the frontiers of physics. This love was contagious and affected everyone around him."
Among his favorite past times included model railroading and model ship building. He was an accomplished musician as well.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Maria; and three sons, Scott, Mark, and Todd.
Inurnment will be at The Epsicopal Church of Bethesda-By-The-Sea Church in a private family ceremony as well as a celebration of life at a later date.
