Allen B. Althouse
Allen B. Althouse, 84, of West First Street, Birdsboro, died April 3 at 11 p.m. in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since March 31.
He was the husband of Helen L. (Massey) Althouse.
Born in Baumstown, he was the son of the late Ralph H. and Anna (Harner) Althouse.
Althouse served on the Birdsboro Zoning Board since 1984 , and was previously a zoning-code enforcement officer in the borough for 12 years. He was earlier employed for 26 years as a pattern maker by Birdsboro Corp., retiring in 1982.
He was a 1936 graduate of Birdsboro High School.
Althouse was past president of the Birdsboro Alumni Association.
He is also survived by two sons, Robert A., Douglassville, and John H., Exeter Township.
There are also three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Althouse was predeceased by a daughter, Arvilla A., in 1943.
Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Dengler Funeral Home Inc., Birdsboro. Burial will be in Birdsboro Cemetery, Union Township.

Born in Baumstown, he graduated from the former Birdsboro High School in 1936. He worked as a pattern maker for 26 years for the former Birdsboro Corp. before retiring in 1982. He was also a zoning code enforcement officer in Birdsboro from 1972 to 1984. Althouse served on the Birdsboro Zoning Hearing Board from 1984 to 2003. He was a member of Union Masonic Lodge No. 479 of Birdsboro and a past president of the Birdsboro Alumni Association. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Robert Allen Althouse of Douglassville and John H. Althouse of Exeter; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a daughter. Contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 300 W. First St., Birdsboro, PA 19508. Burial was in the Birdsboro Cemetery. The Dengler Funeral Home, Birdsboro, handled the arrangements.
