Martha Elizabeth Chappuis, 93, died April 8 at a local convalescent hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born Martha Seidel on April 15, 1902 in Wells County, N.D.
Born and raided in Wells County, Mrs. Chappuis moved to Lodi in 1919 and graduated from Stockton Business College. She married Peter Chappuis in 1929. He passed away in 1954.
Mrs. Chappuis was employed for 30 years as a bookkeeper for Charles Beckman Estate, retiring in 1984. She was also a member of Temple Baptist Church and served on the board of Deacons and Deaconesses at the church, and was also active with W.M.S.
She enjoyed gardening, church activities, reading and the Bible.
Mrs. Chappuis was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Chappuis; five brothers and five sisters.
Mrs. Chappuis is survived by two daughters, Barbara Zehner and Meta Chappuis, both of Lodi; and three grandchildren.
Burial at Lodi Memorial Cemetery.
