Mr. Ben L. Caldwell, 85, of the Rocky Mount Community of Meriwether Counnty, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at his home.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 26 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Wayne Settle and the Rev. Stanley Rogers will officiate, and burial will be in the Caldwell family cemetery in Rocky Mount.

Pallbearers will be Larry Caldwell, Ronald Caldwell, Barry McCoy, Bruce McCoy, Bobby Braswell, Edward Argroves and Hugh O'Neal.

Mr. Caldwell was born October 26, 1917 in Meriwether County, son of the late William and Claudie Owens Caldwell. A lifelong resident of Meriwether County, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War Two and was a member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church. He retired from The Little White House in Warm Springs.

Surviving are son, Bill Caldwell of Rocky Mount; four daughters and their husbands, Sarah Braswell, Mollie and Phillip McDonald, and Diane and Eddie Cochran, all of Rocky Mount, and Linda and Tony Braswell of Starr, S.C.; brother, Claude Caldwell of Rocky Mount; sisters, Mae Argroves of Gay and Faye Jackson of Moreland; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
