Julia Lynn 'Julie' KNOST
19 June 1957 ~ 31 December 2005

Julie Knost

Julia (Julie) Lynn Knost was born at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo., on June 19, 1957.

She attended St. John Guengerich School of Music, kindergarten under Doris Jean Swanson Wood, Eastmorland Grade School, East Junior High School and Parkwood High School. She graduated high school as a National Honor Society member in 1975. While in high school she served as the Art Club's secretary-treasurer and on the Joplin yearbook staff. Julie continued her education as an art major at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan. She worked in weaving, jewelry, pottery and sculpture, preferring fibers and paper. She was recognized as a Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society member when she graduated with a bachelor's degree in fine arts in 1979.

Upon her graduation she moved to Los Angeles, Calif., to pursue a master's degree in fine arts. Julie found that she was sensitive to most of the products she needed in an art career and began working in other areas.

She loved books and while in California she worked in a bookstore managing her own section. She also volunteered in a women's health clinic. Julie later moved to Boston, Mass., to work as a bookbinder at Harcourt Bindery, the oldest continuously operating bindery in the country. Several years later she moved to Kansas City, Mo., to first work for Hall's department store as a bridal consultant and finally as a corporate health specialist for the American Red Cross. Her extreme sensitivity to chemical and other environmental factors forced Julie to return to Joplin in 1989.

Although ill with Environmental Illness, Julie researched her condition to help herself and other with similar problems. She was a regular telephone and mail resource for individuals across the country. Just over three years ago Julie was diagnosed with serosis of the liver and was placed on a liver transplant list shortly thereafter.

Julie was a member of First Presbyterian Church and participated on the prayer chain.

She loved her family and friends, taking a special delight in her new grandnieces, Kacyi and Lexi.

She also enjoyed a variety of activities, as her health would allow. Julie was an avid reader, worked crossword puzzles and stayed current with politics and world news.

She is survived by her mother, Nancy R. Righthouse; her father, Carroll A. Knost; her sister and husband, Cyndi and Jamie Cogbill; her nephew and wife, Chris and Shelly Evans, their daughter, Alexia; her niece, Micah Evans and her daughter, Kayci, all of Joplin; her aunt, Barbara and husband, Ken Ralston, of Bella Vista, Ark.; her cousins, Tony McCreary and sons, of Amarillo, Texas; Jeff McCreary and family, of Ellington, Fla.; and Mark Lenger and family, of Warrensburg, Mo.; special friend, Fenton Huff; her current cat, Lily; as well as other Knost and Robertson family members survive her.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Cliff Mansley officiating.
