Mrs. Evelyn Fuller Arnold, 94, of Farmville, passed peacefully on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at The Woodland. Mrs. Arnold, the mother of Helen Arnold Person (Darrell) of Farmville, was a lifelong resident of Athens and Winder, Georgia until earlier this year.
Mrs. Arnold was born July 24, 1921 in Athens, Clarke County, Georgia, to Sidney Philip Fuller and Flora Rowena Bates Fuller Algood of Athens. A 1939 graduate of Athens High School, Mrs. Arnold married Charles Haase Arnold of Winder, Georgia, on January 30, 1942. Together, the Arnolds had four children: Charles Haase Arnold, Jr. (deceased), Robert Edward Arnold, Sr. (Janet) of Anderson, SC; Stephen Kemp Arnold (Susan) of Huntsville, AL; and Mrs. Person.
Mrs. Arnold was pre-deceased by her husband and eldest son, as well as her parents. She is survived by her remaining three children, nine grandchildren, two grandchildren by marriage, and 24 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Arnold was a homemaker and community volunteer, as well as supporting her husband’s business at City Pharmacy, Winder, GA for over 44 years. Until her passing, Mrs. Arnold was the longest serving member of the Winder First United Methodist Church, Winder. Until declining health forced her to take a less active role, Mrs. Arnold had served as a member and leader of the Myra Clark Circle and on numerous committees. She was a past member of the former Auxiliary of the Winder Lions Club for which she served as President in 1965-66.
Since October of 2011, Mrs. Arnold made her home at Magnolia Estates Assisted Living in Winder, Georgia, and, most recently, at The Woodland in Farmville. Her family is deeply grateful to Danny and Denise Rampey and the staff of Magnolia Estates and to Greg Cole and the staff of The Woodland for creating a home and community for her.
Mrs. Arnold’s life will be remembered at a Memorial Celebration on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Winder First United Methodist Church, 230 N. Broad Street, Winder, GA 30680. The family will greet guests from 12:45-2:45 pm in the Fellowship Hall with the service to follow at 3:00 pm. A family interment of her ashes will follow at the Arnold Family plot in Rose Hill Cemetery, Candler Street, Winder, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Winder First United Methodist Church.
