Mildred C. Balitza, 96, formerly of Market Street, Berwick, died April 2, 2014, at Smith Health Care, LTD, Mountaintop, where she had been a resident for two years.
She was born Nov. 9, 1917, in Berwick, and was a daughter of the late John and Mildred C.(Hunsinger) Hunsinger.
Mildred was a homemaker all her life working briefly at the Market Street Public School in the cafeteria.
She enjoyed flowers. Mildred raised her family on her own, was a lovely, caring person, and was always there for her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Balitza Sr., who died in 1953; brothers: Howard, Walter and Milford Hunsinger; and a twin sister, Margaret Meeker. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by a son, Joseph Balitza Jr., and his companion, Ruth Brill, of Palmerton; daughters: Mary A. Strong and her husband, Allen, of Florida; Peggy A. Hudelson and her husband, Keith, of White Haven; four grandchildren: David Strong, Chad Hudelson and Adrienne and Joseph Balitza; and two great-grandchildren: Samantha and Logan Balitza.
Memorial services are being planned for Sunday. The time and place will be announced in the Paid notice section of the Sunday paper.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick.
