James Robbie Hill, was the oldest son of Peter Hill (1834-1891) and Helen Robbie Hill (1838-1863). He was the brother of Helen Robbie Hill (1860-?) and Francis Hill (1863-?). His mother died when he was 2 years old. His step mother was Agnes Davidson Hill. Agnes and James' father Peter, had 7 children: Agnes 1868, Peter,1871, Barbara 1873, Christina 1877, Julia 1877, Alexander 1881 and Mary Jane 1884. James lived in Australia from 1875, till the time of his death. He was a seaman by occupation and served aboard the S.S.Keilawarra, a Coastal Cargo Ship He also served as a Trimmer on board the Balclutha out of Sydney and in 1894 was found as a crewman on board the S.S. Titus. He was listed on Board the Titus as a Lamp Trimmer. He lived in Brisbane from 1919 to 1929.He died of Pneumonia at Brisbane Hospital and was buried 30 July 1929.James served with the Australian Imperial Force, 9th Reinforcements 15th Battalion, Joining August 11, 1915.He also served with the 19th Lanarkshire Volunteers for one year in Glasgow Scotland. He served during the battle of Gallipoli, became ill with Chronic Rheumatism, was returned to Sydney and discharged May 12, 1916.
