Train Kills Woman At Elk Grove Depot

ELK GROVE (Sacramento Co.), June 13. -- Mrs. Orsola Pia, 60, wife of Louis Pia, county highway department worker, was struck and killed by the locomotive of Southern Pacific passenger train No. 262 shortly before 10 A. M. today as the train was slowing for a stop at the station here.

Justice of the Peace G. F. Mix reported to the coroner's office that Mrs. Pia apparently decided to dash across the tracks to reach her home on the west side of the right of way before being cut off by the train. The left side of the pilot struck her and hurtled her body 20 feet, clear of the rails. She apparently was dead when spectators reached her.

Mix said the locomotive stopped within half of its length and the engineer at first believed Mrs. Pia had reached safety.

Besides her husband she leaves a son and daughter in Delano. She was a sister of Joseph and Charles Badella of Elk Grove.

J. W. Brown and A. Williams of Sacramento were conductor and engineer respectively.

Daughter of Giovanni Badella and Giovanna Pia Badella
Sister of Joe Badella, Michele Badella, and Carlo Badella.
Stepsister of Columbo Gavello.
Wife of Luigi Pia.
Mother of Baby Pia, Lora Pia Marusick and Roido Pia.
