Lawrence Frederick Sever, 87, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on March 22, 2014.
He was born at home, in Duluth, to Anna (Rozich) and Frank Sever on Nov. 17, 1926.
He attended Stowe and Morgan Park schools and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
At age 17 he was a welder in the shipyards in Duluth. He worked as an electrician for U.S. Steel and American Hoist and Derrick and as a building engineer for Faith Haven Apartments until his retirement. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union and a lifelong member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church.
He married Helen Nassin on Oct. 6, 1956. Lawrence was the finest example of a man. He loved his family above all else. He was a dedicated, loving, patient husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He enjoyed 25 years of retirement and his independence, strength, determination, and wonderful, dry wit carried him through to the end.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Francis.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; siblings Virginia (George, deceased) Mikrut, Althea (Irwin, deceased) Tverberg and Philip Sever; his children Nancy (Abel) Sever Flores and Melanie Sever; grandchildren Kate Royer and Peter Jordan and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
