David George Chase was the son of George Portland Chase and Susan Catherine Borders. He married Bessie Lea Waugh (1897–1983) in Montana, on 6 FEB 1918. They had a daughter, Darlene, and two sons Paul and Leonard. They divorced in 1924. He later married Ruby Pearl Martin (1899–1975).

David was a master mechanic, and inventor, including a snow-blowing machine.

After farming in Iowa for many years, David and Ruby retired to Costa Mesa, California.
