Bessanna Spence Brumley, 81, passed away Oct. 23, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Charlie H. and Nettie B. Spence of Princess Anne County. Bessanna grew up on the family farm spending most of her time learning to crochet, knit and sew -- talents passed down by her mother. Her creations will be cherished by many as she enjoyed sharing her work with family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Edgar Wright Brumley. She is survived by three daughters, Dina McClanan and husband Wayne of Currituck, N.C., Rebecca Salmons of Knotts Island, N.C., Pamela Crosson and husband Max of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Dan Spence of Virginia Beach and Hunter Spence of Hamden, Conn.; three grandchildren, Neil McClanan and wife Amy of Moyock, N.C., Laura Ashley Salmons of Knotts Island, Kelsey Jo Crosson of Virginia Beach; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 691 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, with the Rev. Chuck Moseley officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Creeds Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 57036, Virginia Beach.
