Mary K. Cowan, daughter of John and Phoebe Cowan, was born in Ohio April 8, 1836 and departed this life April 16, 1930, aged 94 years and 8 days. At the age of two years she with her parents, moved to Illinois, where they lived for 6 years. they then moved to Crawford County , Mo., in 1844, lived there 3 years, then moved to Platte County, lived there a short time, then to Clinton County, where they lived some 6 years. then they came to Worth County where she spent the rest of her life, having lived in this county 77 years and in the state 86 years.
She was united in marriage to Riley M. Motsinger in 1871. To this union three children were born, the oldest dying in infancy, and Edward R., and John P. Motsinger who survive, together with their wives, two grandsons, Gail V. Motsinger and Ralph K. Motsinger; two granddaughters, Mrs. Inez l. Dawson and Mrs. Deva E. Phipps and their husbands; also two great grandsons Wheaton Max, Jr. and John Phillip Dawson. One grandson Joe M. Motsinger having preceded her in death August 13, 1922. She also leaves a large number of nephews and nieces, besides many other relatives and a vast host of friends. Her husband preceded her in death, her twin brother, W.K. Cowan having passed away in March 1922, and her last remaining brother in August 1922.
She was converted at an early age going into the Baptist church. After the White Oak Christian church was built near her home she placed her membership there and remained a devoted Christian to the end of her life. To be in her presence was like being in the presence of angels.
She was of an exceptionally happy and sunny disposition, never worrying and always, like Paul , being content with her lot. Though she had only two sons, she was a mother to many. Her life was full, having always lived for others. Truly it can be said of her she has fought a good fight, she has finished her course, henceforth there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness.
Funeral services were conducted from the home to the Fletchall church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. L. B. Day in the presence of a large concourse of people who had gathered to show their respect and esteem for her memory in spite of bad roads which necessitated a drive of 12 miles extra to reach the church house. The floral offering was very beautiful.

The pall bearers were P. W. F. H. and Gail Motsinger, W. M. C. Dawson, Galen Phipps and Ralph Motsinger. The flower girls were Mrs. Inez Dawson, Mrs. Deva Phipps, Miss Pearl Motsinger and Mrs. Merle Sisk.
She was laid away in the Fletchall cemetery. May the kind Heavenly Father bless those who were touched by her going and help them to make their lives as useful dutiful and pleasant as hers was.
