Doris Rosalee Purcell, 75, of Mt. Vernon died 9:11 p.m. March 26, 2005, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Purcell was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Jefferson County to Clarence J. and Alma (Scott) Smith. She married Lloyd Purcell Oct. 18, 1945, in Hopkinsville, Ky.; he survives.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Dennis Myers will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Purcell is survived by her husband, Lloyd Purcell of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Connie Mays and husband the Rev. David Mays of Granite City and Sondra Rainwater and husband Larry of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren, Traci Barnett and husband Mark of Deltona, Fla., Adam Mays of Wayne City, Lydia Morse of Carrier Mills, Jody Rainwater and wife Tawny of Wayne City and Joshua Rainwater and wife Crystelle of Mt. Vernon; nine great-grandchildren, Shantel Barnett, Mark David Barnett, Abbigale Barnett, Kyleigh Mays, Jayce Morse, Brylan Rainwater, Kaycee Rainwater, Brianna Rainwater and Vince Rainwater; and two brothers, Donald E. Smith and wife Velma of Rochelle and Darrel D. Smith and wife Carolyn of Philadelphia, Miss.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Bessie L. Wilson Smith; and two sisters, Zelma F. Smith and Belva A. Smith.

Mrs. Purcell was a very dear and giving wife, lovingly devoted to her family and grandchildren, who were very important parts of her life. She was also a member of Howard Chapel Church in Mt. Vernon.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or to Howard Chapel Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be made to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
