Revolutionary War Continental Army Officer. He served during the Revolutionary War as Colonel and commander the 10th Virginia Infantry regiment from January 1778 until September 1778. He assumed command of the unit while it was in the brutal Winter Encampment at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, and led it until he was transferred to the 5th Virginia Infantry regiment. After the war he became a founding member of the Society of the Cincinnati. Originally interred on the grounds of Liberty Hall, his family home in Culpepper County, Virginia, he was re-interred at Arlington on July 31, 1911. Colonel John Green has been deceased longer than any other person buried at Arlington National Cemetery. He is one of eleven Revolutionary War Veterans re-interred at Arlington.
