Mr. Clifton was a native of Rich Square, N.C. He had been in the service of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company for about 25 years when several years ago his health failed. He saw most of his railroad service as an agent in Darlington.
Mr. Clifton is survived by his wife who was Miss Rosa Smith of Gibson N.C.; two sons, Frank Thomas Clifton of Mount Airy, N.C. and Ernest Smith Clifton of Baton Rouge, La.; a half brother H.F. Taylor of Richmond, Va.; and a sister Mrs. W.A. Rose of Wadesboro, N.C.
