Anna Matheson died Monday, November 3d at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula following a stroke. She was born Anna Newell MacLachlan in Ludlowville, New York, in 1908. Her family moved the same year to Tucson Arizona where she remained until she was a Mortarboard graduate of the University of Arizona in 1930 where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She met her husband-to-be, Stanley Matheson, when both were college students working at the Asilomar YWCA Conference Grounds while she belonged to the group known as "Stuck-ups" and he to the "Pirates." They married in 1931 and in 1943 took up permanent residence in Pacific Grove. She worked for a number of years at Grove Pharmacy in Pacific Grove. She is survived by her two daughters: Marcia Norris of Cupertino and Mary Ann Matheson of Taos, New Mexico; two grandchildren, Geoffrey Norris of Salinas and Mary Ann Norris of Los Angeles, and three great-grandchildren. Private services will be held Saturday, November 14, at Asilomar.
