Donald was born on March 1, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Donald J. and Doris (Schmidt) McGuigan Sr. and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy class of 1950. Donald joined the United States Navy in 1951 and served during the Korean War as a Corpsman aboard the U.S.S. Noble for 3 ½ years. After his honorable discharge from the Navy Donald continued his education at Utica College and Siena College. In 1956 Donald married Patricia E. Joyce, a loving union of 50 years. Donald was employed as an executive with Utica Mutual Insurance Company for 21 years. During his stay at the company he worked in many parts of New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts. He later started his own business working as a private investigator, retiring at the age of 62 to follow and support his grandchildren in their many activities. Donald enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, playing chess and telling jokes. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Lions Club, and the Republican Club. He also volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America and refereed youth football games. Donald loved watching professional football and following his favorite college football team, "The Fighting Irish".
