Monica Mary Goretski, age 47, of Ocean Springs, MS, died Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Ocean Springs Hospital.

Monica was born on May 11, 1966 in Lompoc, CA.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Anthony J. and Anna E. (Pricenor) Goretski of Wilkes Barre, PA and Thomas and Mildred (Krohn) Fountain of D'Iberville, MS.

Survivors include her father and mother, Anthony J. Sr and Berryl A. Goretski of Ocean Springs, MS; her brother Anthony "Tony" J. Jr and his wife, Sara D. Goretski and their twin children, Anthony J. III and Anna C. of Long Beach, MS; her sister, Diana M. and her husband, Mark C. Mullins and their children, Katelyn M. and Wesley C. of Manassas Park, VA; and her sister, Maureen A. and her husband, Lonnie C. Hanson and their children Sydney A. and Riley E. of Pascagoula, MS.

Monica graduated from Ocean Springs High School in 1984, received her bachelor's degree from USM in 1989 and after receiving her double lung transplant at UNC on April 11, 1993, return to college and earned her master's degree from William Carey College.

She worked at Gonzaflex Film Productions as a sound / light assistant and camera operator, taught briefly at MGCCC in Jackson County, and was a sales associate for many years at Dillard's and Belk's. Over the last few years, Monica also spent time volunteering in the "Lord is my Help".

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Ocean Springs, MS on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 11:00 am followed by burial at Crestlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 10:00 am at St. Alphonsus.

As Monica was a passionate supporter of organ donation and UNC, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Monica's honor to the "Jason Kendal Ray Memorial Trust Foundation", Jason Kendall Ray Foundation; PO Box 6326, Concord, NC 28027, http://jasonray.org/give-a-gift/ which helps cover expenses incurred by patients and their families awaiting transplants or to the "St. Vincent de Paul Society" St. Alphonsus, 502 Jackson Ave., Ocean Springs, MS 39564.
