LYMAN - Betty M. Ayer, 80, of Lyman, died on Jan. 13, 2014, at her home. She was born in East Vassalboro on Jan. 14, 1933, a daughter of Harold and Eunice (Norton) Hayes. She attended schools in Gardiner and was a graduate of Gardiner High School.
On Feb. 6, 1954, she married Howard Ayer in Gardiner.
She worked as a switchboard operator for AT&T for 20 years, retiring in 1993.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Edith Hayes; and a brother, Robert Hayes.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Howard Ayer, of Lyman; two daughters, Janice Martin, of Florida, and Gwendolyn Lindvall, of Vermont; one son, Andrew Ayer and his wife, Violessa, of Texas; one brother, Robert Hayes; one sister, Marlene Webber, of Mount Vernon; one sister-in-law, Linda Ayer, of China Lake; and four grandchildren.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
