Charles "Bud" Haltom, 68 of Fontanet, passed away at 5:20 p.m. on Friday Jan., 16, 2004 in Union Hospital after a long illness.
He was born July 3, 1935 to Loren and Lessie Vernell Frazier Haltom in Owen County.
He attended Jordan Cunout and Cloverdale schools. He was class president and valedictorian of the 1953 Cloverdale High School graduating class. He graduated from Purdue University and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. through Purdue's Air Force ROTC in 1957. He served on active duty in Germany from 1958-61 and retired from the Air Force reserves as a Lt. Col. in 1985. He was a supervisor for Anaconda Aluminum, later Alcan, from 1961-87. He then worked as an Internal Revenue Customer Service representative from 1989-98. He and his wife own Diana's Flowers. He was a member of Higher Ground Christian Center and the German Oberlander Club.
He is survived by his wife, Diana; four daughters, Debbie and Jeremy Martin of Clay City; Patti and Sam Cummings of Bloomington; Kelly and Bill Shaw of Clay City and Shala and Paul Ingle of Terre Haute; one brother, Loren Haltom of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister Ila Grinstead of Westfield, Ind.; grandchildren, Charles E.H. Cummings, George Cummings III, Ben Zatorski, Jared Zatorski, Wade Martin, Robert Kitchens, Wesley Martin, Billy Shaw, Makenzie Smokstad, Dylan Ingle and great-grandson Nathaniel Zatorski.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Mattox Wood Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial at Roselawn. VFW 972 will be conducting military services.
