Born Feb. 21, 1929 in Murdocksville, he was a son of the late Frank and Rose Shaffer.
John was a hard worker all of his life, working many years on his family's farm. He worked as a truck driver for 29 years for K.C. Jackson Abrasives while also working at Eastern Express Trucking and had 15 years of service as a forklift driver for Hussey Copper.
John was a great sports fan with a particular fondness for baseball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son John G. Shaffer, Jr. , a sister and brother in law Theresa and Don Campbell, 3 brothers in law Rusty Strouss, Joe Tesla and Jim Arborgast, and his in laws Darl and Sara Booth.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Deloris (Booth) Shaffer, a son and daughter in law Donald and JoAnn Shaffer-Aliquippa, a daughter in law Debra Shaffer-Hopewell, 2 beloved grandsons, John (Jennifer) Shaffer-Hermitage, and Mark Shaffer of Hopewell, a brother Frank (Helen) Shaffer, 3 sisters, Ella Tesla, Alice (Bob) Purdy, Mary Strouss, a sister in law Doris Jean Arbogast and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Monday from 4-8 in Tatalovich Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, 2205 McMinn St. Aliquippa, where a service will be held Tuesday at 11am, with Rev. Dale Szallai, officiating.
Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery-Aliquippa, Pa,
John will be remembered as a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. He lived a simple life and his main goal was loving his family.
