Dorothy Ruth Horton

Dorothy Ruth Horton was born November 13, 1921, to Dale and Vida James. She was born at home, in the small town of Monitor, WA, where her parents were homesteaders. Dorothy attended Wenatchee High School and later went to Wenatchee Business College, where she became a woman ahead of her time. After meeting the love of her life and marrying, she traveled with her husband, Denny, as he pursued his career in professional baseball. Upon returning to the Wenatchee Valley, they settled in Monitor. Dorothy pursued her career in bookkeeping and raised their three children on their family orchard. Some of her fondest memories were those spent with the large extended family at Cougar Inn on Lake Wenatchee. After retirement, Dorothy and Denny enjoyed a life of travel, camping, golf, and the Alaska outdoors. "You will be missed."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Denny; and son, Jim. She is survived by her children, Vicki Hester and Nan Missal; adopted family member, B.J. Howerton; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A Viewing will be available at Telford's Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee on Thursday, January 23, 2014, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. There will be a Graveside Ceremony at the Cashmere City Cemetery on Friday, January 24, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. for friends and family. A Memorial Service will be held at the Monitor Methodist Church on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center. Arrangements are assisted by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
