Mary A. (EMERY) HAYS, daughter of John and Alcinda EMERY, was born in Coshocton county, Ohio, Oct. 23, 1835; departed this life April 27, 1904, aged 68 years, 6 months and 4 days. She removed with her parents to Greene county, Indiana, at the age of thirteen years, where she continued to reside until death called her away. She united with the Christian church at New Salem, Ind., in 1855, at the age of twenty, and through life she remained a devout Christian.
She was united in marriage to Walter HAYS, Oct. 23, 1855 and was the mother of eight children—Harriet Rebecca, John P., William Jonas, Sarah D., Elizabeth B., Charles D., Alice A. and Ellen Parthena, all of whom, together with her husband, survive her except three. She was a devoted wife and mother and only lived for her family.
