Death of a Pioneer: After an illness of nearly a month, Mrs. Leah Crawford, a well known and esteemed resident of Valley Center passed away at 12:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 1913, at the home of her son, J. L. Woods, where she has been residing for the last year. At the time of her demise Mrs. Crawford was 87 years and five months old and senile decay is attributed as cause of death.
Mrs. Crawford was a native of Missouri, having come to California over fifty years ago. For the past 36 years, she was a resident of the Valley Center District with the exception of a couple of years spent in San Bernardino.
She is survived by six sons, W. P. Belshe, of Perris, California; Thomas Belshe, of Yolo County, California, Charles, Joseph L. and James M. Woods of Valley Center and Watson Woods of Concord, California and one daughter, Mrs. H. H. Warren of California.
Being one of the pioneers of early Valley Center, Mrs. Crawford was widely known and esteemed as "Grandma" and her death comes as a shadow of sorrow.
