Joe Lopez entered into rest at age 79, in Clearlake, Nov. 10, 2005. He's been a resident of Clearlake for 15 years; prior to that, Joe resided in Oakland for 35 years. He was born in Watts on Nov. 28, 1925, to Gabriel and Guadalupe Lopez. Joe took great pride in serving his county. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He served as an infantryman during World War II in the European campaign. For his service, Joe earned the World War II Victory Medal, European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal. Joe was a machinist at Todd Shipyard in Alameda. He retired in 1985. He is survived by his wife, Alice Lopez; sister, Frances Hensley and family; he was the loving father of Joe Lopez of San Francisco, Patricia Lopez of Alameda, Anthony Lopez of Oakland, Mary Ann Lopez of Alameda, Robert Lopez of Discovery Bay, Steven Lopez of San Lorenzo and Lisa Campbell of Fairfield; loving grandfather (Papa Joe) to 23 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Frances Lopez, mother of his seven grown children. He was a devoted father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather. Papa Joe loved his grandkids dearly. He was very proud of his kids. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16 with a vigil beginning at 7 p.m. at Jones & Lewis Clear Lake Memorial Chapel, 16140 Main St., Lower Lake, (707) 994-6417. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 14435 Uhl Ave., Clearlake, (707) 994-6618.
