Margarett was the daughter of David Mock and Elizabeth (Owen) Mock Goodwin.

Margarett, widow of John G. OWEN, was born in Surrey County, North Carolina, October 22, 1822, came to Greene County, Indiana, in the fall of 1835 and settled in Highland Township, where she spent the rest of her days.

In February 1844 she followed Christ in holy baptism and united with the Baptist church of Christ at Concord. Was married to John G. OWEN, October 9, 1845. To them were born four daughters and three sons. One son and two daughters preceded her to the spirit world. Shortly after her marriage her husband united with her in church relation and was ordained to the office of deacon, which office he filled well. Their life together was happy prosperous and useful. Noted for their industry, kindness and hospitality and piety till April 19, 1876, when Brother Owen went from labor to reward. She then walked the lonely path of widowhood till she died the death of the righteous on February 21, 1899, aged seventy-six years, four months and ten days. The remains were conveyed to Concord Church of which she was an orderly and faithful member for fifty-five years, where a short religious service was conducted by Elder M. C. FULK, after which she was laid to rest in the Owen Cemetery, two miles north of Calvertville, by the side of her faithful husband who and been waiting her coming nearly twenty-three years. Her memorial well be preached in early spring. M. C. F.
