Mary Baker Ladue wrote that her parents moved to Morristown in the spring of 1850. The records show that on May 1, 1850 William C Baker bought 4 acres on South side of Elm Street. The place was know as 'The Elms' and was first numbered 35 Elm Street and later 47 Elm Street.
