The family of Virginia Vestal Brown sadly announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Our mother was a source of strength to all that knew and loved her, always giving of herself and asking nothing in return. She dedicated her life to loving and raising her 6 children. We were honored to have been given the gift of being her daughters and sons.

Virginia was born in Houston, Texas and raised in New Orleans, LA. After her marriage to Dr. Vestal, she attended the University of Chicago. They also lived in College Station, TX where she became affectionately known as the "Yellow Rose of Texas" by her husband and children. The Vestal family moved to Auburn in 1959 where Dr. Vestal was head of Mechanical Engineering at Auburn University.

She was the daughter of Elvin Gedney Noxon and Grace Klager Noxon. She was the sister of Dr. Elvin G. Noxon Jr. of Washington D.C.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Dr. Donald M. Vestal Jr. and Kenneth H. Brown. Virginia and Ken were the originators of the Tiger Trail in downtown Auburn.

She is survived by her six children (in order of birth): Kathleen Vestal LeNoir, Donald M. Vestal III, Cynthia Vestal Rouse (David), Douglas Noxon Vestal (Nina), Melissa Vestal McGuire (Roger), and David Pate Vestal (Janis); grandchildren: David Rouse, Jr. (Mandi), Sara Cordell (Bradley), Mary Johnson (Hart), Christina Brannen (Nick), Laura LeNoir, Amy McDonagh (Damian), Pax Noxon Vestal, Rachael Byington (Damian), Maggie Marie McGuire, Zachary Brown McGuire, Jamie Vestal Dell (Steven), David Pate Vestal, Jr.; great-grandchildren: Cooper Rouse, Claire Rouse, Hannah Cordell, Rebecca Cordell, Benjamin Cordell, Benjamin Johnson, Paul Johnson, Virginia Johnson, William Brannen, Molly Brannen, Henry Brannen, Kaya McDonagh, Kiera McDonagh, Payton McDonagh, Jordan Sheeley, Allison Sheeley, and Julian Dell.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Auburn Memorial Park. There will be a celebration of life for Mrs. Brown in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, November 26, 2013.
