Sabina C. Altrock, age 99, of Treynor, passed away November 10, 2011, at Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs.
It was Sabina's wish to donate her body for anatomical research. Burial will be in Zion Congregational Cemetery, Treynor, Iowa, at a later date.
Sabina Christina Schmidt was born January 29, 1912, in Pottawattamie County, Iowa near Treynor, to the Carl Ludwig "Louie" and Elizabeth (Christophersen) Schmidt. She graduated from Treynor High School in 1930, and earned her nursing degree from Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing in 1933.
She served her country in the U.S. Air Force from 1938 to 1961, with tours in Europe and Korea, retiring with the rack of Major. She was a registered nurse at Jennie Edmundson Hospital and was the Treynor School nurse from 1966 to 1972. She married Ralph Fredrick Altrock on June 16, 1972, in Santa Barbara, California. They made their home in both California and in Treynor. Ralph died October 1, 1994. She was a member of Zion Congregational Church and the Treynor American Legion, and Lamar Hartje Post #725.
She is survived by one step-son, Bruce (Carolyn) Altrock; one step-grandson, Brian Altrock; one step-granddaughter, Christine Altrock, all of Thousand Oaks, CA; two sisters, Ethel Guttau of Treynor and Darlene (Fred) Dahl of Council Bluffs; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Hans Schmidt and one sister, Dora Shaw.
