Melvin Lee Andrews, born May 31, 1981 in Toppenish, Washington went to the Creator on December 21, 2013. Melvin was a proud member of the Yakama Nation and was raised in the Yakima Valley and Cultuss Lake, B.C., and attended school in Wapato.

He enjoyed traveling to the different casinos, drawing, listening to music and hanging out with his brothers. His favorite time, however, was spending time with the love of his life, his daughter, Cissaya. He also enjoyed spending time with his nieces, nephews, and other family members and was always supportive of all his family.

Melvin is survived by his daughter, Cissaya Moses Andrews; mother, Janice Andrews (Brian Wahsise); sisters, Shana High Eagle and Natasha Meanus both of Toppenish; nieces, Harmony Meanus, Elaine Wolfe, Gloria (Clyde) Alcala; grandmother, Fidelia Meninick Andy; grandfather Leroy Decoteau; aunt, LeAnne Aguilar; and uncle, Victor Andrews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Otis C. Andrews; sister, Christina Red Eagle; grandmother Vivian Ina John; aunt, Ella Jane Jim; great grandmother, Louise Leo Jackson; and grandfather Melvin Andrews.


The Dressing Service was held on Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Toppenish Longhouse with the Over Night Service following. Burial will be held today, December 24th, 2013 at 8 a.m. at the 1910 Shaker Church Cemetery in White Swan, Washington.
