Jerry Cudahy, 'Canada's dog whisperer,' dies in rural Ontario fire that destroyed his home, killed dozens of puppies

A man hailed as Canada's dog whisperer for his work with the pets of well-to-do and famous clients, said to include both Bush presidents, has been killed along with his wife in a fire that destroyed a home near Lake Simcoe, clients say.

News of the fire Sunday at the Beaverton farmhouse of Jerry and Eve Cudahy, which also killed many of the puppies boarding there, has been spreading among shocked pet owners in some of Toronto's most prestigious neighbourhoods.

CUDAHY, Eva and Jerry - It is with great sadness and a heavy heart, that the family of Eva Cudahy (nee Goldstein) and Jerry Cudahy announce their sudden passing on February 10, 2013. Loving and caring parents of Tanya (Mike) and Brie (Billy) and wonderful grandparents to Gage, Whyatt, Gabriel, Robbie, Daytona, Troy and Lucas. Jerry and Eve will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by Eve's mother Irene Goldstein, predeceased by step-father Bert Sandor and predeceased by Jerry's parents Basil and Margret Cudahy (nee Hannan) brothers, sisters and exceptional friends. Visitation will take place at MCDougal & Brown funeral home, (2900 Kingston Rd.) on Saturday, February 23 2013, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass held at St. John's Catholic Church, (794 Kingston Rd.). Interment to take place at Pine Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Autism Canada would be greatly apprieciated by the family. Thank you to the firemen, police and volunteers who helped that day.
