The son of Muscoe and Sarah Garnett received his degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1856. Surgeon on Don Pedro Railroad, South America. He became a surgeon in the Confederate States Army. He joined the Nottoway Troop of the 3rd Regiment of Virginia Cavalry on 27 April 1861. In June he was on detached duty at Yorktown. He was promoted to Assistant Surgeon and by special order of General Lee to Surgeon. He was described as being five feet and eleven inches tall with a fair complexion, hazel eyes and brown hair. He was a physician in Nottoway when he joined the Cavalry. He died of kidney disease at Ben Lomond.
