Lucille Alice Montgomery, 96, died peacefully on Dec 9, 2013, at her son's home in Caldwell. Lucille was the eldest of nine children born to Elliott & Leonie Cray on March 27, 1917, in Williston, ND. Her family moved to Sweet Home, OR in 1919. She married James Montgomery in 1935, and lived in the Willamette Valley until 1951 when they bought a ranch and moved to Arock, OR. They raised seven children.
She was preceded in death by her infant son Richard, sons John and Edward, husband James, sisters Rose and Ruth, and brother Frank.
Lucille was very active in the Holy Family Catholic Church, and a very devout Catholic who lived her faith in her humble manner every day. In addition to the hard work of raising seven children, Lucille also worked as a school custodian for 20 years. She was also active in the Arock Grange, and the Sage Hens Club for many years. She also wrote the Arock news for the Malheur Enterprise and Argus Observer for decades until the age of 91.
Lucille is survived by sons Pat (Fermana), Mike (Vicki), of Caldwell; daughters Mary (Fred) Calzacorta, Arizona, Carol Coleman, Arock, and Rose Todd, MT, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Mom was a very loving, caring and serene individual. She always looked for the good in everyone, never said a bad word about anyone, and always had a smile on her face!
Services will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Jordan Valley, OR. The viewing will be from 10-11:30 AM, Rosary Recital at 11:30 AM; and Funeral Mass at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Jordan Valley Cemetery.
