Doris "Dottie" Hayes Anderson, 86, of Cleveland Circle died Friday at her residence after a brief illness.

Born in South Portland, a daughter of Walter J. and Maude E. Coolbroth Hayes, Mrs. Anderson attended South Portland schools and was a 1930 graduate of South Portland High School, where she played on the basketball team.

Mrs. Anderson went to work for Blue Bird Taxi Co., then worked as a buyer of children's clothing at the Rines Bros. Co. department stores in Portland. She later worked for the state's Workman's Compensation Department.

Mrs. Anderson attended the Elm Street United Methodist Church in South Portland. She was a member of a local garden club.

She love fishing at her cottage at Crescent Lake in Raymond. She also enjoyed being with young people, playing cards with her friends, sports of all kinds and gardening.

Mrs. Anderson was better known as "Nana" to her family and their friends.

Surviving are a son, William H. Anderson III of Raymond; a daughter, Mrs. Merrill C. (Susan) Pettingill of South Portland; a sister, Virginia Stanton of Yorba Linda, Calif.; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Conroy-Tully South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway. A funeral service will be held there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will follow in Forest City Cemetery, South Portland.
