Charley Swank
Taking a turn for the worse, after physicians had pronounced him improved enough to make the trip to Stillwater, Charley Swank, local resident, died shortly before midnight, Wednesday, September 2, 1931, in a Belleville, Kan., hospital.
Swank suffered injuries which were to prove fatal a week ago Monday, August 24, about a mile north of Belleville when the car he was driving left the highway at a curve and rolled several times.
The Stillwater man was taken to Belleville in an unconscious state and did not regain consciousness for several days. One side of his head was paralyzed and physicians feared he would be unable to use part of his body in the event of recovery.
Swank's condition was such early this week that plans to bring him to Stillwater had been made and he expected to come home Thursday or Friday.
Complications arose in his condition Wednesday and physicians stated he appeared to have contracted pneumonia. Death came late Wednesday.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Strode Funeral home. Burial was in Fairlawn cemetery here.
