Raymond DeYong, 63, East Piper Lane, Benton, died Monday, April 9, 2012, while visiting in Morristown, NJ. Born June 8, 1948 in East Stroudsburg, a son of the late David Sr. and Annie (Reinalda) DeYong, he was also preceded in death by brothers: Arthur DeYong Sr. and Gerrit John DeYong, and sister, Gertrude Whitesell.
He attended West Morris High School in Long Valley, NJ. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army (25th Infantry 3/4 Cavalry) in the Vietnam War, and had been awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart and the Sharpshooter Badge with rifle bar. A member of the Benton VFW and the Military Order of the Purple Heart in Berwick, he was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He and his wife, Kathleen R. (Hann) DeYong, would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this Oct. 28, also surviving, his daughters: Kathleen R. "Kate" Mione and husband, SFC David Mione, Tobyhanna; Patricia A. "Patti" Andreas and husband, Karl Jr., Berwick; four grandchildren: Jacob David Mione, Davin Chad Mione, Emilee Rose Andreas and RaeAnna Robin Andreas; brothers: David DeYong Jr. and wife Elaine, Mt. Bethel; Peter DeYong and wife Judy, Bradenton, FL; Paul DeYong, Hackettstown, NJ; four sisters: Marion "Mickey" Mack and husband Ronald, Bushkill; Pamela Drake and husband Ernie, Mathais, WV; Lorraine Ainsworth and husband Fred, Bloomsburg; Linda Richner and husband Allen, Mansfield; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place Friday, April 13, from 5 to 7pm at the McMichael Funeral Home Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (Rt. 487). His funeral service will begin at 7pm at the funeral home with Pastor Scott Lyons of Stillwater
Christian Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Holy Family School, 728 Washington St., Berwick, PA 18603.
