Born in Nora, Nebraska to Otto W. Petersen and Ruby L. Pecht Petersen on July 21, 1926. He moved with his parents to Lincoln, Nebraska as an infant and was a lifelong Lincoln resident.

He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company with 32 years of service. He was a life member of the Goodyear Foreman's Club and Goodyear Sportsman's Club.

He was a 50 year member of American Legion Post No. 3, Lincoln, Nebraska; and was Past Commander of American Legion Post No. 173 in Greenwood, Nebraska.

He was a 50 year member of Lincoln Liberty Lodge No. 300 A.F. and A.M.

Kenneth was a World War II U.S. Navy Armed Guard veteran. He served in the North and South Pacific Theaters of War. He served on the USS Intrepid, the USS Hat Creek and the USS William Schirmer.

He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Ken was a 1944 graduate of Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Nebraska, a former athlete in baseball and football, a member of the Lincoln High School "L" Club. In 2004, he was inducted to the Lincoln High School Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 1943 state championship football team.

He was a member of the Lincoln Trap and Skeet Club.

He was married to Patricia Kelly Petersen from 1947 to 1976. He was married to Glynda Thomas Finley from 1977 until her death in 2004.
