Emery's obituary was published in the Waukegan News-Sun, Waukegan, Lake County, Illinois on May 12, 1959: "EMERY F. NOWAK, SR. GURNEE - - Emery F. Nowak, Sr., 69, of 3710 Grand Ave., died at 7:26 p.m. yesterday at Victory Memorial Hospital, Waukegan, after an illness of seven months.Mr. Nowak was born Nov. 2, 1889, in Union and had lived for the past 18 years in Gurnee. He was a member of the American Legion Post of Gurnee, an Army veteran of World War I. He was a tool and die maker with Houdaille-Hershey Corp. until his retirement.Surviving are his widow, Marian; two sons, Emery Jr. of Waukegan and Herbert of Yucaipa, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (June) Downey of San Diego, Cal.; two brothers, Paul of Elgin and Emil of Belvidere; two sisters, Mrs. Regina Diedrick of Roselle and Mrs. Emma Diedrick of Elgin; and six grandchildren.Friends may call after 7 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home, 1521 Washington St., Waukegan.Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Grandquist of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Warren Cemetery."
